Greek Week is a longstanding tradition at West Virginia Wesleyan College, celebrating the spirit of unity, service, and friendly competition among the college’s fraternities and sororities. Held annually, the event brings together all Greek organizations to participate in a series of philanthropic initiatives, service projects, and athletic competitions.
A central component of Greek Week is Spring Sing, a musical performance showcase. For more details, please refer to the Spring Sing page. Another signature event is Penny Wars, a fundraising competition where donations are collected for various philanthropies through multiple platforms. The total amount raised is calculated at the conclusion of Greek Week and the winning organization is announced during Spring Sing.
Throughout the week, fraternities and sororities compete separately in a wide range of events, including but not limited to: volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, water polo, pickleball, and classic field games such as tug-of-war, potato sack races, wheelbarrow relays, egg toss, and cornhole.
All competitions are overseen by volunteer referees, with scoring managed by elected representatives from each organization. Points are awarded based on placement in each event and are tallied cumulatively. Final scores—including points earned from service events, Penny Wars, and other activities—are announced during the conclusion of Spring Sing, marking the end of Greek Week.
The sorority winner receives a plaque with the corresponding award.
The fraternity winner receives a wrestling belt that is passed from winner to winner.
